KUCHING – The Head of State of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended an Aidilfitri open house hosted by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. The event took place on the evening of 3 April at the Deputy Premier’s private residence in Petra Jaya.
Upon their arrival, the distinguished guests were warmly received by Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also serves as the Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II and the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment. He was accompanied by his wife, Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah binti Datuk Awang Daud, and their family.
The festive gathering was also graced by several prominent political figures. Among those present were Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, the Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, and Dato Sri Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, the Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications.
Other notable attendees included the Deputy Minister of Town Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, accompanied by his wife, Datin Hajah Asiah Haji Awai. Former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam was also in attendance with his wife, Puan Sri Lorna Enan Muloon.
The event saw a strong showing from state security and community leadership. Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, the Sarawak Police Commissioner, was present alongside various departmental heads, community leaders, and guests from diverse backgrounds.
During the celebration, the governor and his wife expressed their appreciation to the host family for the invitation. They noted that such gatherings are vital in reinforcing the bonds of friendship and brotherhood among the state’s leadership and citizens.
The open house was held in a lively and harmonious atmosphere, embodying the true spirit of Syawal. Similar open houses across Sarawak have drawn massive crowds this year, reflecting the state’s strong tradition of inter-community goodwill.
Earlier in the week, the governor’s own open house at the Astana Negeri in Kuching attracted nearly 27,000 visitors over two days, a testament to the close-knit nature of Sarawakian society.
Deputy Premier Awang Tengah had also hosted a separate open house in Lawas, which drew over 10,000 attendees, which he described as a living testament to the solidarity and harmony that defines Sarawak’s multi-racial society.
The recurring theme of unity through festive celebrations continues to be a cornerstone of Sarawak’s social fabric, with leaders from all levels making concerted efforts to engage with the public during this holy month.
