Sarawak Gears Up for Grand Celebration of Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s 79th Birthday

KUCHING: Sarawak is in full readiness to celebrate the 79th Birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, with final preparations for the Parade and Grand Gathering at Padang Merdeka proceeding smoothly ahead of the main event this Saturday.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who also serves as Chairman of the Main Celebration Committee, confirmed that all contingents and uniformed bodies have demonstrated high discipline and commitment throughout the training and rehearsal sessions.

“So far, preparations are going well. Today marks the final rehearsal before the official celebration on October 11. Everything is ready — we are just waiting for the day to come,” he told reporters after inspecting the final rehearsal session at Padang Merdeka on Thursday morning.

Dato Sri Abdul Karim also extended his gratitude to all committee members, including those from the protocol division and sub-committees, for their dedication and teamwork in ensuring the smooth execution of every aspect of the preparations.

He further expressed hope for favourable weather conditions on the celebration day, allowing the event to proceed in a joyful and dignified manner.

The Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s Birthday Celebration is an annual state event that pays tribute to the Head of State as a symbol of unity, leadership, and loyalty among the people of Sarawak.

This year’s celebration will feature a series of meaningful programmes and ceremonial traditions. The Kesyukuran Ceremony will take place on October 9 at the Sarawak State Mosque, followed by a Multi-Religious Kesyukuran Ceremony organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) on October 10 at the Imperial Hotel.

The State Dinner will be held on October 11 at the State Dinner Hall, while a Dinner and Tea Ceremony with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak is scheduled for October 12.

Adding to the festive spirit, the People’s Concert will feature local singers and performers, symbolising unity and shared joy among Sarawakians.

The 79th Birthday Celebration not only reflects the people’s respect for the Head of State but also strengthens the bond of harmony and belonging across the diverse communities of Sarawak. – UKAS
