KUCHING — In the warm spirit of the Chinese New Year 2026, His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, and their family, extended festive greetings to the Chinese community in Sarawak and across Malaysia. The message was delivered in conjunction with the celebration of the Year of the Horse, a season traditionally associated with determination and forward movement.
Speaking from Kuching, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi highlighted that mutual respect and harmony among Sarawak’s diverse races remain the foundation of the state’s well-being. He expressed hope that the Year of the Horse would continue to nurture values such as perseverance, gratitude, love, and unity among people of different religions and backgrounds. According to him, these shared values are essential in preserving Sarawak’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence and collective progress.
The Yang di-Pertua Negeri also reminded the public that festive seasons are not only about celebration but also about togetherness at home. He encouraged families to fully appreciate the opportunity to gather, especially during reunion dinners, which he described as meaningful moments to strengthen family ties and reinforce the importance of the family institution. In his view, strong families form the backbone of a stable and caring society, and festive occasions provide the right setting to renew these bonds.
At the same time, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi offered a practical reminder to those travelling back to their hometowns during the holiday period. He advised road users to remain vigilant, obey traffic regulations, and place the safety of themselves and their loved ones above all else throughout their journeys. He noted that a safe return home is the greatest gift a family can share during the festive season.
Concluding his message, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri conveyed his sincere wishes for happiness, good health, and continued unity among the people. With greetings of Gong Xi Fa Cai and Xin Nian Kuai Le, the message reflected Sarawak’s inclusive spirit, where cultural celebrations are shared moments that strengthen understanding and togetherness across the state.
