KUCHING – His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended the Sungkei Ceremony held at the Dewan Santapan, Surau Astana Negeri on 21 February.
The arrival of TYT Tun and YABhg. Toh Puan was warmly received by Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, along with staff members of Astana Negeri.
Also present at the ceremony were family members, including Sharifah Fariah’s daughters, Sharifah Nong-Jasima and her husband, Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop. Distinguished guests included Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, accompanied by his wife, Datin Hajah Jamilah binti Haji Said; Datu Haji Awang Suhaili bin Ledi, Chief Syarie Judge; and Ustaz Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, together with his wife, Puan Habsah binti Drahman. Datu Haji Abdul Hadi bin Abdul Kadir and his wife, Datin Hajah Nik Nurizan binti Nik Jaafar, were also in attendance.
The ceremony began with a light iftar, followed by congregational Maghrib prayers. Guests then joined TYT Tun and YABhg. Toh Puan for dinner at the Santapan Hall.
Later in the evening, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and his wife, together with invited pilgrims from DUN16 Muara Tuang and DUN17 Stakan, performed Isyak and Tarawih prayers in congregation. The prayers were led by Ustaz Awang Mohamad Safwan bin Awang Sefari.
Following the prayers, TYT Tun and YABhg. Toh Puan participated in the moreh session, sharing fellowship with attendees before departing for home.
In his reflections, TYT Tun expressed hope that such gatherings would continue to serve as platforms for strengthening friendship, nurturing unity, and deepening faith during the blessed month of Ramadan. He prayed that all acts of worship performed would be accepted and blessed by Allah SWT.
The Sungkei Ceremony at Surau Astana Negeri highlighted the importance of togetherness and devotion, reinforcing the values of care and community during Ramadan.
