Khartoum – Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have captured the strategically vital border triangle joining Sudan, Egypt, and Libya. Sudan’s Army and Foreign Ministry accuse Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar of coordinating the attack—backed by weapons, logistics, and support from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a pointed condemnation, the Foreign Ministry described the joint assault by RSF and Haftar’s forces as “a dangerous escalation of Abu Dhabi regime-sponsored aggression,” denouncing it as a flagrant violation of international law. The area has long served as a logistics hub for weapon flows and mercenary activity aimed at supporting the RSF.
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) confirmed a tactical withdrawal from the triangle, citing heavy losses during RSF advances—a manoeuvre indicative of the combined RSF-Haftar push.
Experts highlight this move as a regionalization of the conflict, where the RSF gains operational depth and logistical pathways—via Haftar’s Libyan National Army network, through which arms and fighters traverse into Sudan. The UAE, a major RSF backer, facilitates this through covert arms transfers via Libya.
Sudan’s accusations are part of a broader narrative implicating the UAE in enabling the RSF through weapon supplies and mercenary networks, while Sudan filed a case against the UAE at the International Court of Justice over alleged violations of the Genocide Convention and sovereignty.
