UiTM Sarawak Proposes Community Projects to Support State’s Development Agenda

KUCHING — Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch has unveiled a series of high-impact community development project proposals in alignment with Sarawak’s long-term development agenda. The proposals were presented to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) and Bukit Goram State Assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Led by Deputy Rector (Research & Industry Network), Prof. Ir. Dr. Juferi Idris, the UiTM delegation made the presentation during an official session held at the Deputy Minister’s office, aimed at reinforcing the university’s commitment to uplifting rural communities through education, innovation, and socioeconomic initiatives.

Datuk Jefferson welcomed the proposals with enthusiasm, commending the university’s strategic direction and community-centred approach. “I am impressed by UiTM Sarawak’s clear vision and dedication to impactful education,” he said. “These initiatives not only equip students for the evolving job market but also create long-term value for rural communities in Sarawak.”

He emphasised that the projects are closely aligned with the state government’s goals to foster sustainable development and enhance livelihoods. Datuk Jefferson also encouraged UiTM to extend its outreach to other underserved districts in Sarawak, particularly areas in need of critical skills development and economic empowerment.

He pledged full support and committed to facilitating cooperation between UiTM and relevant government bodies to ensure the seamless implementation and maximum impact of the proposed projects.

The proposed collaboration between UiTM and state agencies underscores a strategic partnership that leverages education, research, tourism, and innovation to drive inclusive socioeconomic development, particularly in Sarawak’s rural and indigenous areas.

The initiative signals a progressive step forward in integrating academia with community empowerment under the Sarawak government’s development framework.
