KUCHING — The Sarawak Government is making strong efforts to empower local youth in the fields of security, enforcement, and high-impact technology to support the state’s goal of becoming a developed and modern region.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said Sarawak’s future depends on its young people being trained in advanced skills and modern technology. He stressed that a competitive and modern state needs disciplined and skilled workers who understand the latest in security and tech.

“We must train our own people. If we want to move forward, our youth must understand modern security theories and disciplines,” he said during the Launch of the Sarawak Command Net (SCNet) and 8th Anniversary of the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) at a hotel in Kuching on Tuesday.
To support this goal, the Sarawak Government plans to offer scholarships to Sarawakians who want to pursue careers in security. Selected students will be sent to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK to gain international-level training.
“This is not to build our own army, but to produce skilled individuals who can serve in the police, army, or UKPS,” he explained.
Although national security is managed by the Federal Government, the Premier said Sarawak plays an active role in supporting safety efforts. “We are not taking over, but we want to help our people feel safe. Cooperation with federal agencies is very important,” he added.
The newly launched SCNet technology is a big step in improving tactical communication. It will enhance the coordination between UKPS and other key agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), and Royal Malaysian Customs.
The event was also attended by top Sarawak leaders including Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, YB Dato Lo Khere Chiang and Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. — UKAS EDITION
