KUCHING – The Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) has mobilised its interceptor boat, SC Todak 1201, to safeguard the Sarawak River during the official opening of the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum on 20 April 2026.
The deployment formed part of an integrated security operation, codenamed Brooke Dockyard Inauguration Control OP, designed to ensure the safety of guests and the public attending the high-profile event at Kuching Waterfront.
The operation underscored UKPS’s commitment to maintaining order and security in Sarawak’s waterways, particularly during occasions of historical and cultural significance.
Officials explained that the presence of SC Todak 1201 was intended to regulate river traffic and monitor movements along the waterfront.
By maintaining a visible patrol, the unit aimed to deter potential risks and provide reassurance to those gathered for the ceremony.
The Brooke Dockyard opening attracted dignitaries, officials, and members of the public, making security a priority.
UKPS highlighted that its readiness reflects broader efforts to integrate land and water-based operations, ensuring that events of this scale proceed smoothly and safely.
The Sarawak River, a vital artery for transport and tourism, often hosts large gatherings and ceremonial occasions.
Security measures such as this operation are seen as essential in balancing public access with safety requirements.
UKPS emphasised that its role is not only to enforce regulations but also to create a secure environment conducive to community participation.
The successful implementation of the operation demonstrated the preparedness of the enforcement team and reinforced the importance of inter-agency cooperation in managing public events.
UKPS reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Sarawak’s waterways, stressing that vigilance and coordination remain central to its mission.
