MIRI – The spirit of unity and patriotism lit up the streets of Miri this morning as over 8,000 people gathered for the highly anticipated Unity Walk, one of the seven flagship events of Sarawak Day Walk 2025. The symbolic parade showcased the strength of togetherness among Sarawakians from all walks of life.
The event was graced by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who arrived at Miri Stadium at around 7:15am with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. The couple had the honour of flagging off the walk, officially launching a 2.7-kilometre journey through the heart of the city.
Joining the momentous occasion were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Transport Minister and Minister-in-Charge of Sarawak Day 2025 Celebrations Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, and other dignitaries including deputy ministers and department heads.
Participants came from government agencies, NGOs, and the wider public, many of whom arrived at the stadium as early as 6:00am to be part of the vibrant celebration. The Sarawak Day Walk 2025 was more than a parade—it was a powerful display of unity across Sarawak’s multiracial society.
Following the walk, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan, accompanied by VIPs, toured the Entrepreneurship Carnival and visited exhibition booths hosted by government bodies at the stadium grounds. During the visit, five Community and Village Chiefs (KMKK) from the Miri Division presented tokens of appreciation to Tun Pehin Sri as a gesture of respect.
The Unity Walk is designed to reinforce community bonds and instil pride in Sarawak’s identity as a distinct and sovereign region within Malaysia. As the Sarawak Day Assembly is set to take place later this evening, anticipation grows for the attendance of the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and other key leaders to cap off the day’s patriotic celebrations.
