UPM Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to Sarawak Governor Ahead of Proclamation

KUCHING, 26 May – A delegation from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) made a significant courtesy visit to the State Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, this morning at the Sarawak State Palace.

The purpose of the visit was to deliver an official invitation to His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri and YABhg. Toh Puan for their attendance at the upcoming Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak Proclamation Ceremony, set to take place on 30 June 2025 (Monday) at Istana Alam Shah in Klang, Selangor.

This special event will mark the rebranding of the Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) to the newly named Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS). The change honours Sarawak’s growing importance in the national higher education landscape.

The UPM delegation was headed by YBhg. Tan Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, who was recently appointed as the new UPM Pro-Chancellor on 18 October 2024. Accompanying him were YBhg. Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo, Chairman of UPM’s Board of Directors, and YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan bin Mohd Sadullah, Vice-Chancellor of UPM.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noorasmah Saupi, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry
  • Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Wong Tze Jin, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Science
  • Dr. Syeed SaifulAzry Osman Al Edrus, Director of the Borneo Ecoscience Institute
  • Puan Hajjah Siti Rajanah Abdul Aziz, Deputy Director of the Strategy and Corporate Relations Centre
  • Encik Raja Muhammad Muzamir bin Raja Mahadi, Officer to the Vice-Chancellor

During the session, Tun Pehin Sri expressed hope that UPM would continue to support Sarawak’s focus areas such as food security, agriculture, livestock, and other key sectors.
