KUCHING, 12 April 2025: Dato Wee Hong Seng has been reappointed as the Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), extending his leadership for another three years from 1 April 2025 until 31 March 2028.
The official swearing-in ceremony was held at the MBKS Council Hall on Friday, where 32 councillors also took their oaths. Dato Dr. Zaiedi Suhaili was reappointed as Deputy Mayor, reinforcing continuity and experience in city governance.

Of the 32 sworn-in councillors, 23 were existing members, while eight are newcomers. The new councillors include Ariff Ikhwani Mut-Ee, John Wong Chiew Shin, Mohamad Akram Mohamed, Mohd. Syafiq Mohammad Razali, Russell Geramong Wilson, Shaukat Khan Ishtiaq Hussain Khan, Stefanie Evelyn Inte Bubong, and Wendy Earnest Sadan.

The re-appointed Councillors are Councillor Albert Tay Seng Pin, Councillor Andy Lester Tan, Councillor Bong Siak Peng, Councillor Candida Entri, Councillor Chai Ju Loon, Councillor Drahman Jaladin, Councillor Eric Tay Tze Kok, Councillor Isaac Lee Mong Yann, Councillor Jong Jia Chee, Councillor Judy Kho Poh Gek, Councillor Hemang Yu Abit, Councillor King Sie Ying, Councillor Liew Leong Yee, Councillor Misiah Abdullah @ Emiss Berudi, Councillor Othman Bujang, Councillor Sa’amah Bojeng, Councillor Salina Mohammad Salleh, Councillor Dato Shankar Ram Pohumall Asnani, Councillor Thomas Sim Eng Shan, Councillor Wilfred Mujah Aton, Councillor Wung Duk Ying and Councillor Roy Percival Rentap.
The ceremony was graced by Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian. In his address, Dr. Sim stressed the crucial role councillors play in policy-making and implementing Sarawak government strategies at the grassroots.
“You all carry a huge responsibility. It’s not just about sitting in meetings, but ensuring effective delivery of services and shaping policies with NGOs and community associations,” he said.
Dato Wee expressed heartfelt thanks to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Zohari Tun Abang Openg, and Dr. Sim for their trust in his leadership. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from MBKS staff and Kuching South residents.
“This is a great honour and even greater responsibility. I will continue to serve with dedication and transparency,” said Dato Wee, while welcoming the new councillors and praising those who completed their terms.
The event also saw the attendance of various dignitaries including Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Dato’ Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, Datu Dr. Sabariah Putit, and Mayor of Kuching North Hilmy Othman.
