Search Underway for Man Feared Drowned at Tun Salahuddin Bridge

KUCHING, April 11 – A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched following a distressing incident where a 34-year-old man is believed to have fallen into the Sarawak River from the Tun Salahuddin Bridge earlier this morning.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received an emergency call regarding the incident at approximately 9.29am. Rescue personnel from the Padungan fire station were swiftly dispatched to the location.

Police and Civil Defence Force (APM) officers are also present and have cordoned off the area to assist with the search efforts and ensure public safety.

It was reported that the victim’s younger brother tried to prevent the fall and even attempted to rescue him, but the attempt was unsuccessful. The strong river current is believed to have made the situation more difficult.

As of now, the victim remains missing and efforts are continuing to locate him. The SAR team is conducting a thorough search along the riverbank and surrounding waters.
