US Ambassador Bids Farewell, Calls Sarawak ‘Special in My Heart’

KUCHING – United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D. Kagan, described Sarawak as one of the most special places for him and his family during a farewell visit ahead of concluding his diplomatic service on 15 February.

At a press conference, Kagan praised the hospitality and friendliness of the Sarawakian people, recalling fond memories since his first visit in 2014.

“I’ve always loved the warmth, amicability and sincerity of Sarawakians. Whenever I step in here, it brings me happiness,” he said.

He noted that Sarawak holds personal as well as diplomatic significance, as he and his family have visited multiple times for official duties and leisure.

Some of his most cherished experiences included trips to Bako National Park, Gua Mulu, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, and enjoying Kuching’s renowned kopitiam culture.

Kagan described the chance to see orangutans in the wild just 40 minutes from Kuching city centre as extraordinary.

He also commended the rapid transformation of Kuching and Sarawak, calling the state dynamic, energetic and visionary, attributing this progress to the combined efforts of the state government and local communities.

Kagan stressed that even after his official role ends, he plans to continue visiting Malaysia, including Sarawak, in a personal capacity.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the US-Malaysia relationship and the importance of ongoing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

His farewell remarks reflect the profound bond he has formed with Sarawak, highlighting the state’s rising international profile and its role in strengthening Malaysia-US relations.
