The kampung spirit was alive and thriving on 22nd December 2024, as the residents of Kampung Tabuan Jaya Tengah gathered for a heartfelt gotong-royong session. This community-driven effort was part of the preparations for the highly anticipated Christmas and New Year Gathering on 28th December 2024.
Under the inspiring leadership of TR Diana John, the event took place at the humble Rumah Gawai located at Lorong 10, Jalan Kedandi. The building, though temporary and rented by the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK), stood as a testament to the strong sense of community and resilience.
Challenges Faced, Spirits Unshaken
The venue, while functional, bears signs of wear and tear, reflecting the challenges of limited funding. Renovation was out of the question, but the community’s collective efforts aimed to make the space presentable and welcoming. Despite the obstacles, the spirit of unity shone brightly as villagers worked hand-in-hand to transform the space into a venue fit for celebration.

Men, women, and even the younger members of the kampung came together, each contributing their skills and energy. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, determination, and camaraderie as everyone played their part in sprucing up the venue. From cleaning to minor repairs, every action demonstrated the power of gotong-royong, a tradition that embodies the spirit of togetherness in Malaysian communities.
