Woman Rescued After Falling Into 7-Foot Manhole at Jalan Simpang Tiga

KUCHING (Jan 22): A 21-year-old woman was injured early this morning after falling into an uncovered manhole in front of a shopping mall along Jalan Simpang Tiga. The incident occurred as she was on her way to work.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported being alerted to the incident at 6.08am. A team of firefighters from the Padungan fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the woman had fallen into a manhole on the road. Due to the manhole’s depth, which was approximately seven feet, she could not climb out on her own,” said Bomba in a statement.

Firefighters successfully lifted the woman out of the manhole and provided initial medical treatment for her injuries, which included a minor injury to her right leg. She was then transported to Sarawak General Hospital for further medical attention.

The rescue operation was completed within 45 minutes, concluding at 6.53am.

This incident highlights the dangers posed by uncovered manholes in public areas, which can lead to serious injuries or accidents. Authorities are urged to address such hazards promptly to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
