Women Key to Fostering Unity & Well-Being, Says SUPP Leader in Miri

Women Key to Fostering Unity & Well-Being, Says SUPP Leader in Miri

MIRI – According to SUPP Pujut leader Adam Yii Siew Sang, women play a vital role in bolstering community harmony, social welfare, and in steering the smooth functioning of local and party-affiliated initiatives.

He made the remarks during the 27th anniversary of the SUPP Pujut Branch People’s Dance Group and the 21st anniversary of its Fitness Group, in a speech delivered by SUPP Pujut Youth Chief Kelvin Hii Shin Yang on Friday.

“Women play a huge role, not only in ensuring the smooth running of party activities but also in spreading the values of unity and social well-being,” Adam Yii said.

He emphasised the importance of continuing collective efforts to safeguard Sarawak’s peace, equality and cultural harmony among all races and religions.

He urged all members to stay united, engage actively in their communities and cherish the interracial and interreligious harmony that Sarawak currently enjoys.

Furthermore, he noted that these positive societal traits were not lightly earned, but the result of decades of cooperation and mutual respect.

In other recent SUPP developments, the party’s Women Wing continues to push for greater involvement of women in governance, party leadership and community service.

For example, SUPP’s Pelawan Women section has been recognised for raising issues of gender equality and expanding roles for women outside traditional family duties.

Political analysts say such encouragements reflect broader trends: women in Sarawak increasingly assume pivotal roles in public life, serving as bridge-builders in ethnically diverse settings, leading grassroots mobilisation, and contributing to policy discussions.

The SUPP Women’s Wing under Chairperson Kho Teck Wan has also prioritised unity among ethnic and religious lines, advocating that strong communication and leadership from women at divisional levels can help sustain social cohesion.
