ENGKILILI: Two natural landmarks in Engkilili — Wong Ajong Waterfall and Batu Nabau — have been identified as having strong potential to be developed into new tourism attractions capable of boosting the local economy.
Sri Aman Division Resident, Mahra Salleh, recently led a visit to both sites to assess their tourism prospects, accompanied by Engkilili Sub-District Office Assistant Administrative Officer Edwin Mat and staff from both the Engkilili Sub-District Office and the Sri Aman Division Resident’s Office.
Located not far from Engkilili Town, Batu Nabau is gaining interest due to its striking resemblance to a snake, offering a unique visual appeal rooted in local folklore. The location’s geological curiosity presents an opportunity to be highlighted as a niche tourism product, particularly for visitors interested in natural formations and cultural myths.
Meanwhile, Wong Ajong Waterfall is already known as a recreational hotspot, especially during the dry season. With its cool, crystal-clear waters and lush surroundings teeming with flora and fauna, the site offers a refreshing escape into nature.
The scenic and ecological value of Wong Ajong makes it ideal for eco-tourism and outdoor expos that could generate income and job opportunities for the surrounding community.
Authorities believe that with proper infrastructure and community involvement, both sites could become signature attractions for Engkilili and Sri Aman Division.
