Workplace Safety Strengthened Through Training in Lundu

LUNDU – Workplace safety and health awareness received a boost in Lundu as 50 participants successfully completed the ninth series of the Safety and Health Coordinator (KKP) Course, during a closing ceremony held at Dewan Mahligai Gading on Thursday.

The event was officiated by Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who highlighted that safety in the workplace must be a collective responsibility shared by employers, employees and organisations. He stressed that negligence not only disrupts operations but also places lives at risk.

“Your duty as workers is to ensure the person next to you is safe and kept away from risk,” he said, reminding participants that accountability in workplace safety is shared across all levels.

Datuk Henry commended the organisers for equipping participants with comprehensive knowledge of safety processes, standards and emerging technologies in risk management.

He noted that with more development projects underway across Sarawak, the demand for skilled workers who understand safety protocols continues to grow.

He added that as projects expand in scale, safety challenges also increase, requiring workers to be competent, professional and well-prepared to manage risks effectively.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants, marking their commitment to strengthening workplace safety practices in the Lundu and Bau areas.

Among those present were Larry Ong Soon Soon, Director of Chemsain HRD Sdn Bhd; Norashikin Brahim, Secretary of the Lundu District Council; Anwar Fakhriyuddin Matamit, Lundu District Deputy Officer; and Danny Ngumbang Martin Engkujah, representing the Bau District Office.

Observers noted that the KKP Course has become an important platform for instilling safety culture among workers, particularly in regions experiencing rapid development.

The training is expected to contribute to reducing workplace incidents and ensuring that Sarawak’s workforce remains resilient and prepared for future challenges.
