MARUDI, Jan 17: The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has underlined the importance of unity and collective effort as the foundation of Sarawak’s success, following the World Bank’s recognition of the State as a high-income region. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the Marudi Bridge, streamed live via the Ukas Channel, he dismissed the relevance of ministerial ratings in favour of collective governance.

“Governance in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is a shared responsibility. You cannot evaluate it by percentages like 40 or 20 per cent. Regardless of whether we are Malays, Melanaus, Ibans, or Bidayuhs, we work together in unity. The true measure of success is Sarawak’s economic progress, which the World Bank has recognised as a result of our collective efforts,” said Abang Johari.

He emphasised the dedication of his Cabinet members, crediting their efforts in advancing Sarawak’s development. “Douglas is nearly bald from strategising on infrastructure improvements, Dr Rundi is in the paddy fields, Dr Penguang is constantly seeking project approvals, Anyi pushes for projects in Parliament, and Lee Kim Shin is securing aviation services,” he added with a touch of humour.

Abang Johari also addressed a recent survey conducted by Professor Dr Jayum Jawan, which revealed mixed approval ratings for Dayak ministers. He dismissed such ratings as divisive, reiterating that the Cabinet works tirelessly, irrespective of racial or individual evaluations.

“Our strength lies in unity. When united, we secure resources and ensure development. Fighting and arguing only hold us back,” he stressed, urging Sarawakians to maintain harmony.

The Premier pledged to continue advancing Sarawak’s economy with new policies and infrastructure, adding, “With the boat already in the water, let’s paddle forward together in our vessel, Bumi Kenyalang.”
