SEMATAN – The XTERRA Borneo Sarawak 2026 event officially commenced this morning with a flag-off ceremony at Roxy Beach Resort, Sematan.
The launch was officiated by YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak.
The international sporting event features a full-distance triathlon, duathlon, and cross-country mountain bike categories, attracting athletes and enthusiasts from across the region.
XTERRA, known globally for its endurance challenges, continues to expand its presence in Sarawak, showcasing the state’s natural landscapes as a premier destination for adventure sports.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Mr Morshidi Fredrick, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), and Mr Zulkarnain bin Ismail, Lundu District Officer.
Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort between government agencies and local authorities in supporting sports tourism and community engagement.
XTERRA Borneo Sarawak has become a significant fixture in the state’s sporting calendar, combining athletic excellence with the promotion of eco-tourism.
The event not only tests endurance and skill but also highlights Sarawak’s diverse terrain, from coastal stretches to forest trails, offering participants a unique sporting experience.
Organisers emphasised that the competition aims to encourage healthy lifestyles, foster international sporting ties, and boost local tourism.
With Sematan’s scenic coastline serving as the backdrop, the event is expected to draw both participants and spectators, contributing to the local economy and strengthening Sarawak’s reputation as a hub for outdoor adventure.
The flag-off ceremony marked the beginning of several days of competition, with athletes set to push their limits across challenging courses.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting events that promote sports development and tourism, noting that XTERRA aligns with Sarawak’s vision of positioning itself as a destination for world-class sporting events.
