SHAH ALAM – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim officiated the 103rd Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) at the Grand Hall of the Chancellor, Shah Alam, on 19 November, where he underscored the urgent need for an educational revolution that prioritises morality, humanity, and legal awareness.
His Majesty, who serves as UiTM Chancellor, was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor and UiTM Pro-Chancellor.
During the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim presented the Pro-Chancellor’s appointment letter to Tan Sri Idris Jusoh, former Menteri Besar of Terengganu and Minister of Higher Education (2015–2018).
He also conferred the title of Professor Emeritus on Dr Ir Sr Suhaimi Abdul Talib, who has contributed over 30 years of service in engineering education at UiTM. In addition, His Majesty awarded the UiTM Best Graduate Award 2025 to 15 outstanding recipients.
In his royal address, Sultan Ibrahim expressed concern over recent criminal incidents involving students and graduates, stressing that moral formation is a social responsibility shared across all levels of society.
“Education and moral formation do not only occur on campus or in the classroom. It must start from home in every daily life. Home is the first madrasah for every human being,” he said, highlighting the role of families in instilling noble values, discipline, and responsibility.
His Majesty called for schools and universities to undergo an educational revolution, embedding elements of morality, emotional control, and legal awareness into their systems.
He emphasised that nurturing character is as important as academic achievement, especially in safeguarding the reputation of Malaysia’s institutions of higher learning.
Addressing the challenges of the digital age, Sultan Ibrahim urged the younger generation to handle the cyber world prudently.
He warned that continuous exposure to violent content could increase aggressiveness, but cautioned against restricting digital technology outright, as it would disrupt learning ecosystems. Instead, he advocated for balanced guidance and collective responsibility.
“The truth is, there is no shortcut to addressing social problems. It requires concerted efforts from all parties, starting from homes, schools, society, politicians and the government,” His Majesty said.
The convocation ceremony, attended by dignitaries, graduates, and families, not only celebrated academic excellence but also reinforced the importance of moral and social responsibility in shaping Malaysia’s future leaders.
