Youth X-cape Boosts Rural Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship and Sports

MIRI – Rural youth in Sarawak were given a platform to explore opportunities in entrepreneurship, tourism and community sports through the Youth X-cape programme, organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED).

The event, held at Kampung Bakam Hall, was officiated by Datuk Dr. Ripin Lamat, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development II and Lambir Assemblyman.

In his address, he emphasised the importance of equipping young people with access to information on funding schemes, government support and industry opportunities.

Dr. Ripin highlighted that exposure to entrepreneurship and tourism, alongside creative industry initiatives, is vital for rural youth to fully benefit from available resources.

He noted that the programme aims to bridge gaps by connecting young people with practical knowledge and support systems.

The event also included a briefing on the Sarawak Youth Industry Creative Fund, which provides financial assistance and guidance for youth-led projects.

In addition, the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts shared insights on partnerships between tourism and the creative sector, underscoring the importance of collaboration in building sustainable opportunities.

Beyond entrepreneurship and tourism, the programme promoted healthy living and community spirit through sports activities.

Football, futsal, sepak takraw and tug of war were among the games organised, encouraging teamwork and fostering bonds among participants.

Dr. Ripin stressed that initiatives like Youth X-cape are designed to empower young people not only economically but also socially, by nurturing resilience, creativity and leadership.

He added that the government’s long-term vision is to ensure rural youth are actively engaged in development programmes that strengthen both individual potential and community well-being.

Observers note that Sarawak’s focus on youth empowerment aligns with broader national strategies to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among younger generations.

By combining creative industry support with grassroots sports and tourism activities, the state is working to build a holistic ecosystem for youth development.

The Youth X-cape programme reflects Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in accessing opportunities.

With continued support from government agencies and local stakeholders, the initiative is expected to inspire more young people to take part in entrepreneurship, tourism and creative ventures while embracing active lifestyles.
