KUCHING – The Kuching-Samarahan Division Yuanji Studies Association hosted its Lunar New Year celebration dinner last night, bringing together members and guests in a lively and festive atmosphere.
Representing the Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the Mayor of Kuching South City Council, Dato Wee Hong Seng, attended the event and extended warm wishes to all present.
In his remarks, he conveyed hopes for good health, family happiness, and prosperity in the Year of the Horse.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Deputy Premier, Yuanji exercises were highlighted not only as a health practice but also as a cultural heritage that integrates dance, martial arts, and meditation.
Since its establishment in 1999, the association has actively promoted Yuanji through courses, festival performances, and study trips to Lianhua Mountain in Wuhan, China, reflecting the traditional Chinese virtues of inheritance and sharing.
The Deputy Premier praised the association’s resilience in recovering after the pandemic and its continued efforts to foster inter-regional exchanges.
Performances in Sibu, Miri, and West Malaysia were cited as examples of its contribution to cultural interaction and community health.
A milestone achievement was noted in 2021 when the association acquired its own premises, providing a permanent base for its activities.
With the current president’s nine-year term nearing its end, preparations for leadership succession have begun.
The Deputy Premier emphasised that a sustainable community requires strong systems and successors to ensure traditions are preserved and progress continues.
The evening concluded with warm exchanges among members and guests, underscoring the association’s role in promoting health, culture, and unity in Sarawak.
The Premier’s representative congratulated the association on its achievements and encouraged more people to embrace Yuanji exercises as part of a healthier lifestyle.
