Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus receives official welcome in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA – Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra complex in Putrajaya this morning, marking the start of his three-day official visit to Malaysia. He was received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at 9 a.m., following the playing of both nations’ national anthems and inspection of a guard of honour comprising three officers and 103 members of the Royal Ranger Regiment.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and senior government officials. Yunus later signed the guestbook before engaging in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

During their talks, the two leaders reviewed the progress of Malaysia–Bangladesh relations and witnessed the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) across strategic areas—defence, energy, international studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion.

Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser commended the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, citing historical, religious, and cultural affinities, and highlighted Malaysia’s pivotal role in human resource development, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. Prime Minister Anwar referred to Yunus as “a friend of Malaysia,” underscoring the strong personal and diplomatic rapport.

This visit builds upon robust bilateral foundations and signifies a step forward toward a deeper, strategic partnership between Malaysia and Bangladesh. The agenda also includes a public lecture and honorary doctorate ceremony at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) later in the visit.
