PAPAR — Police have officially confirmed that there is no evidence linking any children of VIPs, ministers, or the Sabah State Palace to the death of 13-year-old Form One student, Zara Qairina Mahathir, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha, Limauan.
Papar District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka, clarified that investigations into the tragic case are being carried out comprehensively, transparently, and without bias.
“So far, we have not found any proof pointing to the involvement of any VIP’s children,” he said in a press statement.
“Let me stress—no individual, regardless of status or background, will receive protection or special treatment if found involved.”
The confirmation follows widespread speculation on social media alleging that the incident was being covered up to protect high-profile individuals. In response, police urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims, which could hamper the investigation and delay justice.
Meanwhile, Istana Seri Kinabalu yesterday denied viral allegations that linked the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman’s family, to Zara’s death. The Palace issued a strong statement condemning the baseless claims.
In a parallel development, Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Jauteh Dikun, stated that the case investigation paper—prepared by Sabah Contingent Headquarters (IPK)—has been sent to Bukit Aman for review before submission to the Attorney General’s Chambers.
As of now, police have recorded statements from 60 individuals, including teachers and students of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha, to assist in the investigation. Zara Qairina was believed to have fallen from the third floor of the school dormitory last month.
The police have reassured the public that they are fully committed to uncovering the truth, ensuring justice is served for Zara and her grieving family.
