The special operation, carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD), began at 10.00pm and ended at 1.30am.

During the three-hour operation, police inspected 20 local men and issued 26 summonses for a variety of traffic offences.

“Among the offences detected were illegal modifications to motorcycles, noisy exhausts, missing rear-view mirrors, faulty brakes, no insurance coverage, no registration number, expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), driving without a licence, and the use of ‘fancy’ or non-standard number plates,” ACP Zulkipli said in a media statement.

He added that the involvement of underaged teenagers in such dangerous activities is worrying and urged parents to play a stronger role in monitoring their children’s movements.

“The police will continue to intensify enforcement operations like this from time to time to safeguard the safety and well-being of all road users,” he stressed.

The operation reflects police commitment to curb illegal street activities, which often endanger not only the riders but also the public. Authorities have also reminded the public that offenders under Section 42(1) face heavy penalties, including fines, suspension of driving licences, or imprisonment depending on the severity of the offence.

With road safety remaining a key concern in Sibu, enforcement efforts such as Op Samseng Jalanan will continue to be a priority to deter reckless driving and illegal street activities.
