19 Families in Tatau Receive Aid After Kampung Seberang Fire

TATAU – Nineteen families affected by the recent fire in Kampung Seberang, Pasar Lama Tatau, received financial assistance on Monday to help ease their burden after the tragedy.

Each head of household was given RM500 in donations, presented by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, during a brief ceremony at the Tatau District Police Headquarters (IPD).

The fire, which broke out around 10am, destroyed 19 houses and left 87 residents homeless. Authorities are still assessing the full extent of losses, while victims have been temporarily relocated with the help of local agencies.

In his remarks, Dato Sri John Sikie extended his sympathy to all those affected and encouraged them to remain resilient. He also suggested that school-going children from the affected families consider staying in dormitories to ensure they have a stable environment conducive to their studies.

Also in attendance at the event were Tatau District Officer Calvin Ligong and Tatau District Police Chief DSP Jame Reis, who joined in showing support for the victims.

The assistance forms part of ongoing community aid initiatives aimed at providing immediate relief while long-term recovery plans are being coordinated. – UKAS News
