MIRI – Two men sustained injuries following a road accident along the Miri-Marudi Road on Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from emergency teams. The incident was reported to the Marudi District Operation Control Centre at approximately 3.41pm.
According to initial accounts, the collision involved a lorry driver who attempted to avoid a four-wheel drive vehicle ahead, resulting in the crash.
Members of the public assisted in removing the victims from the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived.
Charlie Squad, comprising four officers led by Pbt. (PA) Beatrice Kalang, was dispatched to the scene, which was located about 49 kilometres from Marudi.
Upon arrival, the team was briefed by the complainant and immediately attended to the injured individuals.
Both victims, identified as Malay and Iban men, were reported to be suffering from chest and shoulder pain. First aid was administered by the squad while awaiting further medical assistance.
Shortly after, an ambulance from Miri arrived, and the squad worked alongside the Civil Defence Force to stabilise the victims before they were transported for further treatment.
The accident site falls within the Miri District, and traffic flow was temporarily affected as emergency teams carried out their duties.
Authorities have since confirmed that the victims were safely handed over to medical staff for continued care.
Road safety remains a pressing concern in Sarawak, particularly along busy routes connecting districts such as Miri and Marudi.
Local authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on stretches where heavy vehicles and smaller cars share the road.
Recent statistics highlight that road accidents in Sarawak continue to pose challenges for enforcement agencies.
The Royal Malaysia Police and the Road Transport Department have been working to strengthen awareness campaigns, focusing on defensive driving and adherence to traffic regulations.

Following the completion of their task, Charlie Squad returned to the Marudi District Operation Control Centre.
