KUCHING – A 25-year-old local man has been taken into custody by police following a dramatic incident at the iconic Darul Hana Bridge.
The arrest brings an end to widespread speculation after a video of the individual jumping from the structure circulated widely on social media platforms earlier this week.
The Kuching District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) apprehended the suspect on the evening of July 25, 2026. Officers located and arrested the man at approximately 10:00 pm along Jalan Sekama in Kuching.

Kuching District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu, provided details of the investigation in a statement released today.

“Investigations found that the actual incident occurred on July 23, 2026, at around 10.30 pm, when the suspect is believed to have jumped from the bridge after being challenged by another individual,” ACP Alexson stated.
Further inquiries revealed that the suspect is not new to the legal system. Records indicate that he has seven previous criminal convictions. Additionally, initial drug screening tests conducted upon his arrest returned positive results, suggesting that substance abuse may have played a role in his actions.
