KOTA SAMARAHAN – Participants in the upcoming 2025 Samarahan R&DO Sports Carnival are being urged to compete with sportsmanship and unity, while using the event as a forum for networking and mutual understanding.
At the Sports Carnival Preparation Meeting and Team Draw Session, Samarahan Division Resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang reminded all attending representatives from Sarawak’s 12 divisions, including Kuching, Serian, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang, Sri Aman that as host this year, Samarahan carries a responsibility to set a positive tone.
He said the carnival is more than a competitive field. It is intended as a stage for building camaraderie and deeper relationships among civil servants across the state.
“Values of unity, discipline and team spirit must be applied in every event to reflect the true strength of Team Sarawak,” he emphasised.
Mohamad Irwan underscored that while winning is celebrated, sportsmanship should take precedence. The ultimate aim is to reinforce cooperation and integrity among various Resident and District Offices (R&DOs).
The carnival, scheduled for 6 to 9 November 2025, will feature five main sports: football, badminton, netball, table tennis, and pickleball.
Except for pickleball (to be contested at The Summer Shopping Mall in Kota Samarahan), all other events will be held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) facilities.
Additionally, a four-kilometre MAKSAK Sarawak Run is slated for 8 November, beginning at 6 a.m., and will be officiated by the Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
Over 500 athletes and public officials from various divisions are expected to compete. Mohamad Irwan appealed to all contingents to uphold exemplary behaviour, to turn the carnival into a means of strengthening friendship, cooperation, and the integrity of public service in Sarawak.
