SONG – A tragic accident occurred last night at Mile 24, Jalan Musah Kajah, when a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle plunged into a 10-metre deep ravine, killing an elderly passenger and injuring another. The other three occupants escaped unharmed.
Sibu Zone Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Chief, Andy Alie, confirmed that the department received an emergency call at 7.50pm and promptly deployed a rescue team from the Song Fire and Rescue Station.

“Upon arrival, our team discovered that a Mitsubishi Triton had skidded off the road and fallen into a deep ravine,” said Andy in a statement issued today.
Rescue personnel found one of the five victims crushed beneath the vehicle. He was confirmed dead at the scene. Another male passenger sustained injuries to his chin and complained of chest and back pain.
“The injured victim was quickly transported to Kanowit Hospital by members of the public,” Andy added.
Meanwhile, three other occupants survived the crash with no visible injuries.
To aid the rescue, JBPM collaborated with Green Hill logging company, who assisted by deploying a bulldozer to clear the rugged terrain and help retrieve the wrecked 4WD.
“Our rescue team, equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE), carefully lifted the deceased onto a stretcher before handing over the body to the police,” Andy said.
JBPM also assisted in transferring the deceased into a police vehicle for post-mortem and further investigation.
Authorities are now looking into the exact cause of the accident. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution, especially when navigating rural and slippery roads during night-time travel.
