5 Foreigners Hurt in Car-Lorry Crash Along Bukit Sebangkoi Highway

SARIKEI, 23 April 2025 — A morning drive turned into a frightening ordeal when five foreign men were injured in a road accident involving a car and a lorry along the Bukit Sebangkoi stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway.

The incident, which happened earlier today, involved a Perodua Alza and a lorry. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call came in at 8.09 am, prompting a team of eight firefighters from the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the scene.

Operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Unjah Janggau, confirmed that four victims from the car managed to exit the vehicle on their own before the Emergency Operations Team (EOT) arrived.

“One more victim was still inside the car but not trapped. Our team used a stretcher to assist him safely,” he said in a statement issued shortly after the rescue.

All five men, believed to be foreign nationals, were treated at the scene before being taken to Sarikei Hospital by two ambulances from the Ministry of Health. Thankfully, their injuries were reported to be minor.

The driver of the lorry involved in the collision escaped unhurt.

The entire rescue operation concluded smoothly by 8.55 am, less than an hour after it began.

Authorities have not yet released the identities or nationalities of the injured men, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

This incident adds to growing concerns over safety along certain stretches of the Pan Borneo Highway, which has seen a rise in road mishaps in recent months.
