KUCHING: The Sarawak Government’s mission to reclaim its full rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) calls for cooperation from all parties, regardless of political background. The push for the restoration of these rights is crucial for the future of Sarawak within the Federation of Malaysia.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Chief, Miro Simuh, emphasized that MA63 is not solely controlled by the Federal Government. Instead, it is a cornerstone that defines Sarawak’s role and destiny in Malaysia.
“The agreement signed on 16 September 1963 belongs to all Malaysians. It is not owned or controlled by the Federal Government,” said Miro. “Our rights as Sarawakians should never be questioned but must be granted and restored in full. MA63 is about safeguarding our future, and this should transcend political differences,” he added.
He said this during the Opening Ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of PBB’s Youth Wing and Women’s Wing at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) on Friday.
Miro called on PBB Youth to stay committed to the cause. “Our struggle is a noble one. It’s not about hatred or division but ensuring that PBB remains strong, respected, and the backbone of the Sarawak Government,” said the Serembu Assemblyman.
This assembly also marked Miro’s final appearance as PBB Youth Chief, with Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, Datuk Martin Ben, set to take over the role.
Several prominent figures attended the event, including PBB Deputy Presidents Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Senior Vice President Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, and PBB Women’s Chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah. – UKAS EDITION
