Sibu Police Foil Cable Theft Attempt, Arrest Two Suspects at Factory

SIBU, Feb 17 – A quick police response led to the arrest of two men attempting to steal cables from a factory in Lorong Tapah 4B, Sibu, on Saturday night.

Attempted Theft at Factory

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili stated that the incident was reported at around 11.39pm by the factory’s 64-year-old owner. According to the complaint, the suspects had trespassed into the premises and had already begun cutting cables before being caught.

Swift Police Action

Following the report, a team from the Sibu District Police Headquarters’ mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit arrived at the scene at 11.55pm. They successfully apprehended two suspects, aged between 33 and 47, who were still at the scene.

Seized Items and Criminal Records

During the arrest, police seized a motorcycle, 15 hacksaws and blades, and two spanners believed to have been used in the crime. Further checks revealed that both suspects have previous criminal records.

Legal Action and Investigation

The two suspects were remanded at the Magistrates’ Court in Sibu for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Police Urge Public Cooperation

ACP Zulkipli urged the public to provide any information that could assist in crime prevention and law enforcement. He reassured the community that the police are committed to keeping Sibu safe from such criminal activities.

With rising cases of cable theft posing threats to businesses and infrastructure, police are stepping up efforts to curb such crimes. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
