Quick-Thinking Teachers Prevent Major Fire at SMK Tatau Quarters

TATAU – A swift response by school staff using fire extinguishers successfully prevented a fire at SMK Tatau teachers’ quarters from spreading before firefighters arrived this afternoon.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), they received an emergency call from the school at 6.24 PM. A team from the Tatau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the school had already used three dry powder fire extinguishers to contain the fire. This early action slowed down the spread of flames,” the department stated.

Firefighters then continued efforts using a 66.6-metre water stream to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The affected area was a storage room beneath the teachers’ quarters, which contained carpentry and electrical equipment. The damage was estimated at around 10 percent.

By 6.35 PM, the fire was successfully brought under control, followed by a thorough inspection to prevent any potential re-ignition.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by authorities.
