KUCHING – Sarawak Premier, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg, welcomed a special courtesy visit from His Excellency Salah Mohamad Ali Al-Sorour, the Ambassador of Qatar to Malaysia. This important visit took place at the Sarawak Premier’s Office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya.

The main purpose of this visit was to strengthen the good relationship between Sarawak and Qatar, especially in areas like trade, investment, culture, and education. Both leaders exchanged ideas on how to create more opportunities that can benefit both Sarawak and Qatar in the future.

During the visit, both sides discussed possible collaborations in tourism, technology sharing, and halal industries. Qatar is well-known for its advanced infrastructure and global business networks, while Sarawak has rich natural resources and fast-growing industries. By working together, Sarawak can attract more investors from Qatar, especially in sectors like renewable energy, eco-tourism, and agriculture.

Also present during the visit was Mrs Fenny Nuli, Director of the Sarawak Regional Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KLN). Joining the Qatari delegation were Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Sharain, Deputy Head of the Embassy Office, Abdul Rahman Abdulla Al Mulla, Third Secretary, and Ali Mansour Ali Amir, Political Researcher.

This visit highlights Sarawak’s growing role in international relations, as the state continues to position itself as a rising economic hub in the region. For Sarawak, building strong ties with Middle Eastern countries like Qatar could open doors for more trade deals, educational exchange programmes, and cultural events.

YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari expressed his hopes for a stronger friendship between Sarawak and Qatar. He also welcomed more official visits and future cooperation in key sectors.

This courtesy visit shows how Sarawak is not only focusing on domestic development but also expanding its global network, which is important for long-term economic growth. – Sarawakku
