KUCHING, 5 April 2025 — The development of Demak Laut is set to enter a new phase of progress with several mega projects underway, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
Among the major developments include the deep sea port and airport in Tanjung Embang, the Sejingkat Bridge, a naval base, and multiple housing projects, which are expected to uplift the local economy and improve accessibility to surrounding districts.
“These are not small-scale efforts. These are high-impact initiatives. I believe the Sejingkat Bridge alone has already reached around 60 to 70 percent completion and is on track to be fully completed by the end of this year,” said Datuk Dr Hazland.
He stressed that the Sejingkat Bridge will greatly shorten travel time to Kota Samarahan and strengthen socio-economic ties between Demak Laut, Petra Jaya, and Samarahan.
“These developments will open up more job opportunities, improve infrastructure, and connect communities. It is a big win for the people here,” he added when speaking to reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House on Saturday.
The festive event drew a large crowd, reflecting the strong support for Datuk Dr Hazland’s leadership in the area. He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and community spirit shown.
“This year we’re expecting about 5,000 visitors to join us. Last year, over 3,000 residents came. The number keeps increasing every year, and I am thankful for the continuous support,” he shared.
Adding to the celebration, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian was also present, strengthening the camaraderie and festive mood of the occasion.
