Heroic Senior Saves Siburan Home from Fire in Early Morning Scare

Heroic Senior Saves Siburan Home from Fire in Early Morning Scare

KUCHING, 7 April 2025 — A 75-year-old man became the unexpected hero of his own household when he successfully put out a fire before it could destroy his home at Lorong Siburan 8, Kampung Siburan, early this morning.

The incident happened around 2.41 am, and swift action by the senior citizen prevented what could have been a devastating blaze. His fast response managed to contain the fire to a small section at the back ceiling of the house and a pile of old household items.

According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Siburan Operations Commander PBK II Abu Talip, six firemen from the Siburan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched immediately to the scene, located just 8 kilometres away.

“Upon arrival, we found that there was a fire at the ceiling area behind the house and a 20×30 feet pile of worn-out items, which were about five percent burned,” he said in a statement.

Fortunately, the situation was already under control thanks to the homeowner’s brave efforts. The fire brigade only needed to carry out final extinguishing and conduct a full inspection to confirm there were no remaining sources of fire.

Commander Abu Talip added that the team conducted a safety check on the affected area and gathered necessary details about the fire. No injuries were reported, and the situation was declared safe by 3.46 am.

The quick thinking and courage of the senior citizen not only protected his home but likely prevented a bigger tragedy in the quiet neighbourhood.

Let this be a reminder of the importance of fire awareness and early action in emergencies, especially among the elderly.
