KUCHING, April 15: Several roads around the Indoor Stadium will be closed on April 19, 2025, in preparation for the highly anticipated Madani Aidilfitri celebration. The event, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to draw a large crowd. The road closures will take place from 8:30 am until the event concludes, with various key routes in the vicinity of the stadium affected.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah issued a statement today outlining the specific roads and junctions that will be impacted. Key closures include routes around the Kesuma Resort Roundabout, the junction from Wisma Sumber Alam to the Indoor Stadium, and several entrances to the stadium itself. These measures aim to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic during the busy event.
The affected routes will include the entrances from Jalan Stadium (both front and rear), the road leading to Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, Padang Gasing, and the access points to Jalan Diplomatik (Squash Centre). Other closed areas will include the bus parking area near Sarawak Stadium and Jalan Stadium (Ring) towards the public parking lot.
To minimize disruptions, Kuching Police have provided alternative routes for attendees. Vehicles coming from the Sesco roundabout are advised to make a U-turn at the Casuarina roundabout, then proceed via Jalan Casuarina to enter the Jalan Stadium (Ring) junction. Those traveling along Jalan Diplomatik will be able to use designated parking areas behind the stadium.
Following the event, vehicles exiting from the Sarawak Stadium parking area will be directed towards Jalan Diplomatik, leading to Demak, while vehicles coming from Jalan Stadium (Ring) will exit towards Jalan Casuarina.
ACP Mohd Farhan also urged the public to avoid parking along road shoulders and to plan their trips accordingly. These precautions are intended to ease the expected traffic congestion and help ensure a smooth traffic flow throughout the day.
