KUCHING, 25 April 2025 – In a touching gesture of care and compassion, Hindu police officers from the Sarawak Contingent celebrated the 218th Police Day 2025 by donating food to the residents of Cheshire Home Kuching.
The meaningful event began at 4:00 PM with the arrival of the Hindu officers and members from the Sarawak Contingent. By 4:15 PM, hot meals were served to 80 residents of the home as part of the traditional Hindu practice called Annathanam – the sacred act of offering food to those in need.
The menu featured a comforting spread of Nasi Biryani, Chicken Curry, Pickled Cucumbers, and crispy Pappadam. The residents were all smiles as they enjoyed the meal, thankful for the kindness shown by the officers.
Annathanam is more than just a meal. In Hindu culture, this practice is believed to relieve hunger, bring spiritual growth, attract divine blessings, and promote positive karma. It reflects the deeper values of giving, unity, and compassion.
ASP Muttiah Pillai, one of the leaders at the event, highlighted how such acts of service reflect the spirit of harmony in Sarawak. “It is this unity and respect for each other’s culture that makes Sarawak special. Today, we serve not just food, but love and humanity.”
The event not only strengthened bonds between the police force and the local community but also reminded everyone of the importance of serving others selflessly, especially during special occasions like Police Day.
By sharing food and warmth, the Hindu officers demonstrated that policing goes beyond enforcement—it includes compassion, understanding, and building a better society together.
