Empty Rental House in Miri Destroyed in Sudden Fire

Empty Rental House in Miri Destroyed in Sudden Fire

MIRI, 10 May 2025 – A sudden blaze completely destroyed a two-storey semi-permanent rental house in Miri earlier today. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the house was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department, a team from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Miri Sentral) was immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

“Upon arrival, we discovered that the fire had already engulfed the entire structure. The two-storey semi-permanent house was completely destroyed by the flames,” said a department spokesperson.

It was later confirmed that the house was rented by a family of five, including two adult men, two adult women, and a three-year-old child. Thankfully, all of them were safe and not present during the fire.

The authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the total losses incurred. Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, and the situation was brought under control after a coordinated response.

The incident serves as a reminder to all residents to always inspect electrical wiring, turn off appliances when not in use, and report any signs of fire hazards to prevent such tragedies.

The Fire and Rescue Department also advised landlords to regularly inspect their rental properties and ensure they meet fire safety standards.

This fire is the latest in a string of property-related fires in Sarawak this month, raising concern among local residents about the importance of fire safety, especially in semi-permanent homes.
