10 Undocumented Migrants Nabbed in Miri Raid on Illegal Rentals

10 Undocumented Migrants Nabbed in Miri Raid on Illegal Rentals

MIRI, May 22, 2025 – The effort to combat the presence of undocumented migrants (PATI) continues as the Control Monitoring and Enforcement Unit (UPKP) of the Immigration Department of Malaysia Sarawak (JIMS), in collaboration with the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), launched an integrated operation known as “Ops Pintu”.

The operation targeted several unnumbered and suspicious rental homes located in Pujut, Lutong, and Bekenu within the Miri Division. A total of 14 officers from various ranks participated in the raid, which was the result of a week-long intelligence operation conducted by UPKP.

Initial investigations revealed that the individuals in question were allegedly working as mobile traders, offering goods such as carpets to nearby residents. These activities had triggered numerous complaints from the public, leading to further scrutiny.

During the operation, 30 individuals were inspected, and 10 male suspects were arrested for failing to produce valid travel documents. Among those detained were 9 Pakistani nationals and 1 Indonesian national. All individuals were adult males.

They are suspected of violating Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which pertains to entry or presence without valid documentation. All arrested individuals were brought to the Bekenu Immigration Detention Depot in Miri for detention and further investigation.

The Sarawak Immigration Department (JIMS) emphasized its ongoing commitment to eradicating the presence of undocumented migrants in the state. These operations are essential not just for maintaining the security and sovereignty of the nation but also to ensure the well-being, peace, and harmony of the local community.

This raid sends a clear message that the authorities will not tolerate illegal activities or the presence of PATI in Sarawak. – Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia Sarawak
