Tragedy in Bintulu: Lorry Driver Burned in Fiery Head-On Crash

BINTULU, 23 May 2025 – A 59-year-old man died tragically in a fiery accident when the lorry he was driving caught fire after a head-on collision along Jalan Kidurong this morning.

The victim has been identified as Mugai Juming, who was found burnt in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, they received an emergency call at 9.55am regarding a serious road accident involving a large lorry.

Responding swiftly, a team of eight firemen aboard a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location, approximately 6 kilometres from their station.

“Upon arrival, the front part of the 30-tonne lorry was found completely on fire,” the spokesperson said. “Sadly, a man was found charred in the driver’s seat.”

The firemen immediately carried out extinguishing work using a single flow of auxiliary hose connected to a nearby fire hydrant. The team worked quickly to bring the fire under control and ensure the area was safe.

Once the fire was fully put out, the remains of the victim were handed over to the police for further investigation and action.

The operation was officially declared over at 11.45am, with JBPM confirming that the scene was safe and under control.

The cause of the accident and fire is still under investigation. This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that drivers face every day on our roads.
