Quick Action Saves Teen Girl Who Fell Off Sibu Riverbank

SIBU, 29 May 2025 – A 19-year-old girl had a terrifying experience when she accidentally fell off the riverbank near a hotel along the Sibu river early this morning.

Thanks to the quick response from the Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), the teenager was safely rescued just minutes after the incident was reported.

According to Sibu Fire Zone Chief Andy Alie, his department received an emergency call from the public at 3:28 am. A rescue team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene within three minutes.

“Upon arrival, the girl was still stuck on the riverbank. The operation commander ordered our team to begin rescue efforts using safety ropes and a body harness,” said Andy in an official statement.

One of the firefighters was lowered down to the riverbank to reach the victim and pull her to safety. She was brought back up carefully and secured at a safe location.

The rescue team consisted of eight personnel, supported by two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit. The operation was successfully completed at 3:55 am after the team confirmed that the area was safe.

Fortunately, the girl did not suffer any injuries, and she was later handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.

Two police officers were also on-site to assist in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.

This incident highlights the importance of swift emergency response and cooperation between rescue agencies and the public in handling unexpected emergencies.
