BETONG: A power generator belonging to a telecommunications company was completely destroyed in a fire on a hill near Kabok Spak, Jalan Ulu Layar this morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) confirmed that Betong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received an emergency call at approximately 10.13 am from nearby residents who spotted smoke coming from the site.
According to the statement, the fire fully engulfed the generator unit before firefighters arrived.
“The fire involved a generator engine belonging to a telecommunications company, located on a hill, and was 100 percent destroyed. Firefighters used two fire extinguishers and a 400-foot pump line to extinguish the flames,” said a JBPM PGO spokesperson.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
A team of eight firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer II Abdul Kadir Sebie, was dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control quickly.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
