KUCHING — The Fuk Tek Kung Temple in Kampung Beliong, Asajaya has received a funding boost from the Sarawak Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to support the upgrading of its infrastructure and facilities.
The aid cheque was officially presented by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a brief handover ceremony held at his office in the Baitulmakmur II Building on Wednesday.
Receiving the aid on behalf of the temple was Lee Vui Shin, Chairman of the Fuk Tek Kung Temple management committee.
Lee expressed deep appreciation for the financial support, noting that the grant will be utilised to carry out urgent repairs to the ageing temple structure, purchase new equipment, and enhance the overall safety and comfort for worshippers and visitors.
“This contribution is incredibly meaningful to our community,” said Lee.
“It reflects not only the state government’s commitment to inclusivity but also its recognition of the role that all houses of worship—regardless of religion—play in preserving cultural heritage and fostering unity.”
Lee also highlighted the temple’s significance beyond its spiritual function, describing it as a key cultural landmark and a symbol of identity for the Chinese community in Kampung Beliong.
“With this assistance, we hope to continue serving as a hub for spiritual gatherings, cultural activities, and community bonding that contribute to the overall harmony of Asajaya,” he added.
The initiative is part of Sarawak’s broader policy to support religious inclusivity and maintain places of worship across the state, in line with the spirit of unity and multicultural respect that Sarawak is known for.
