Safety of Residents Prioritised, Immediate Restoration Ordered for Kampung Pendam Jetty

Residents’ Safety Prioritised, Kampung Pendam Jetty Restoration Ordered

SADONG JAYA – The Sarawak Government has prioritised the safety of Kampung Pendam residents following recent damage to the village jetty caused by a sand barge collision last Sunday.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, who is also the Sadong Jaya State Assemblyman (ADUN), has directed that immediate precautionary and restoration measures be taken to ensure no harm comes to the public.

“I have instructed the relevant parties to take immediate action including placing signs prohibiting the use of this jetty temporarily until the repair work is completed,” he said during a site inspection on Monday.

Urgent Repairs for Essential Village Link

Datuk Ir. Aidel emphasised that repair works must be expedited given the jetty’s crucial role as the main access point for local residents’ economic activities and daily transport.

“This jetty is the connecting link for the surrounding community, and any delay in repairing it could affect their daily lives. Therefore, immediate action is needed,” he added.

The survey team included officers from technical and implementing agencies, who were tasked with assessing the structural damage and formulating both short-term and long-term restoration plans.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the incident.
