High Accountability Vital in Policy Implementation, Says Dr. Rundi

KUCHING – Accountability and integrity are essential for the effective implementation of public sector policies, especially those involving significant financial allocations such as subsidies, grants, and development projects, said Sarawak’s Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Ministry’s Integrity & Psychology Day 2025 on Tuesday, Dr. Rundi emphasised that every civil servant—from planners to implementers—must uphold a high standard of honesty and integrity.

“A culture of integrity must permeate every level of the public service, not only among department heads but also every officer, regardless of their position,” he stressed.

This year’s event, themed “Integrity Embellished, Psychology Strengthened,” highlighted the dual importance of ethical governance and psychological well-being in building a resilient and efficient civil service.

Dr. Rundi also underscored the growing importance of mental health in the public sector, noting that civil servants with strong psychological resilience are better equipped to make sound decisions, work efficiently, and maintain positive workplace interactions.

“Psychology is not limited to emotions—it includes decision-making, interpersonal skills, and leadership. Understanding it helps build empathetic teams and a healthier work culture,” he said.

He added that balanced civil servants—those who are mentally strong, emotionally intelligent, and committed to service—represent the ideal standard for today’s public administration.

The Integrity & Psychology Day serves as a platform for reinforcing the Sarawak Government’s commitment to both good governance and the well-being of its workforce.
