TAMIN – The proposed construction of a 16-kilometre road connecting Nanga Pakoh to Ulu Bunau is set to be a game-changer for the rural development of the Tamin constituency, serving as a key infrastructure project to improve accessibility, economic activity, and quality of life in the region.
A technical site visit was recently conducted by representatives from the Rajang Hulu Regional Development Authority (MiRRDA), Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu, and the ADUN Tamin Service Centre, representing State Assemblyman (ADUN) Ir. Christopher Gira Sambang. The visit aimed to inspect the project alignment and assess design requirements before moving to the next implementation phase.
This new road project, a strategic initiative under MiRRDA, will be executed by JKR and is designed to unlock the full potential of rural settlements by enabling easier access to resources and services. Upon completion, it will connect key settlements like Nanga Pakoh, Ulu Bunau, and link to the RASCOM settlements of Skim Sekuau and Tada, long underserved by road infrastructure.
“This road will not only reduce the people’s dependence on river transport but will also serve as a catalyst for agricultural development, local trade, and community upliftment,” said a MiRRDA representative during the visit.
Residents of the area will benefit from improved connectivity to healthcare, education, markets, and government services, while local businesses and farmers will gain better access to larger markets and supply chains.
This initiative is part of the broader commitment of the Sarawak government to ensure inclusive development, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
