PAKAN – A total of 33 organisations in the Pakan District have received RM480,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants from the Sarawak government for the third quarter of 2025, aimed at accelerating rural development and empowering grassroots communities.
The recipients included 23 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) from longhouses, Parents and Teachers Associations (PIBG), local clubs, Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Pakan Branch, associations, and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The MRP cheques were presented by Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom, Advisor in the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development), who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Pakan, during a formal handover ceremony on Wednesday.
“These funds must be used to implement meaningful activities that benefit the people and support rural economic transformation,” said Tan Sri William Mawan.
He urged all recipient organisations to remain active, cooperative, and community-oriented, particularly in assisting government agencies in carrying out social and economic initiatives.
“Our longhouse communities must not only hear about development but also feel and take part in it directly,” he emphasised.
He also encouraged local communities to embrace digital tools to market their products and services more efficiently and to tap into various assistance programmes provided by the Sarawak government.
This round of MRP grants reinforces the state government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive development and strengthening the capacity of rural communities to thrive economically and socially.
